What Reiki is and how it works in the body

A simple explanation of Reiki - where it comes from, what happens during a session, and what you can genuinely expect from it.

Reiki session with the laying on of hands

When someone hears the word Reiki for the first time, it often sounds distant and hard to grasp. In reality it is far simpler, and far closer, than it seems.

Where the word comes from

Reiki brings together two Japanese ideas: rei, the universal energy that surrounds everything, and ki, the life energy that flows through every living being. Together they describe exactly what happens in a session: the energy of the universe accompanies and settles the energy that already lives in you.

It is not a belief you have to adopt. It is something you experience.

What happens during a session

You stay fully dressed, lying down comfortably. Nothing is manipulated, there is no pressure and no pain.

  1. Listening first. Before we begin we talk briefly: how you arrive, what weighs on you, what you would like to let go of.
  2. Laying on of hands. I place my hands on different points of the body, or hold them slightly above. Each position is held for a few minutes.
  3. Rest. Many people feel warmth, a gentle tingling, or simply fall asleep. All of these are normal.
  4. Coming back. At the end we take a few minutes to return calmly and put words to what happened.

A full session lasts about an hour. At a distance, around forty minutes.

What you can expect — and what you cannot

Reiki accompanies you. It replaces neither your doctor nor your therapist, and it promises no cures. What it does do, and I see this again and again:

  • The body drops into a deep rest, the kind that is hard to reach in everyday life.
  • Mental noise quietens, and decisions that were stuck become clearer.
  • Stored emotions find a calm way out.
  • The sense of your own strength returns, instead of waiting for something outside to change.

One session or several?

A single session is already noticeable. But real processes ask for continuity, which is why I work from four sessions upwards. The first one opens, the ones that follow hold, and by the fourth you can look back and see the path you have walked.

And if you want to learn it yourself

Reiki is not a gift reserved for a chosen few. It is passed on, and it is learned. The training has three levels plus the master degree, and each one opens something different — first for yourself, then for the people around you.

If something resonated as you read this, it is probably not a coincidence. Write to me and we can talk, with no obligation.
